I badly need to stay off GoT forums, because I can’t believe the number of people complaining about Sansa. Apparently not only was she unforgivingly bitchy to Shae, the fact that she is in this situation to begin with is down to her own naivety, stupidity and shallowness. I must be reading/watching wrong, because from where I’m standing it looks as though Sansa is the only one consistently playing her part flawlessly, while everyone around her makes mistake after cruel, self-serving mistake. God knows I adore Cersei, but she’s not half as cool-headed, astute and calm in the face of extreme provocation, and Sansa is only thirteen. Arya would already be in the dungeons or mounted on a pike, 13-year old Cersei would be tearing apart her room and threatening everyone with a gruesome death at the end of Jaime’s sword. Sansa does what she has to do to survive, while also doing her best to help others where she can. What more could she do?
I think there are some characters in this fandom you can criticize without necessarily being sexist, i.e. it’s possible to hate Cersei not because she’s a woman but because she’s a bad person. But all of the complaints I hear about Sansa come down to the fact that she is stereotypically feminine - all she wants is to get married and be the perfect lady, and the only weapons she has are her manners and wit. And there is really no way to defend that viewpoint that isn’t sexist, so… please stop.
